Heat Stop Refractory mortar - fire-resistant mortar for fireplaces and brick ovens. One of our top-selling products, Heat Stop 50 is the masonry construction industry standard for high-temperature refractory mortar. This firebrick mortar meets and exceeds ASTM C-199 and all other national and state building codes. Heat Stop 50 is non-water soluble and can be safely used in the installation and repair of extreme heat-resistant firebrick and masonry in bread and pizza ovens, boilers, fireplaces, flues, furnaces, incinerators, kilns and wood stoves that reach temperatures of up to 2,500 degrees F. Can be used in interior or exterior applications where moisture is present.
- Combine Heat Stop 50 dry mix with clean, cold water for masonry applications.
- The 50-lb. bag yields about 60 lbs. of refractory mortar after mixing.
- You will need approximately 50 lbs. of product to lay up 100 firebrick (2 1/2" thick bricks), assuming a joint thickness of 1/16" to 1/8", which is recommended. Joint thickness up to 1/2" is acceptable.
- Add 3/4 to one quart of cold water for each 10 lbs. of product you use.
Add clean water (approximately 3/4 to 1 quart) for each 10 lbs. and mix thoroughly. No other additives required. Cold water works best. Warm water quickens set time. Do not remix or retemper this product as you would with a regular mortar.
